Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an energy regeneration device for construction machines, which can efficiently regenerate energy without enlarging the size of an electric storage device.SOLUTION: The energy regeneration device for construction machines assists working elements driven by a main hydraulic cylinder with an assist cylinder 70. The energy regeneration device includes: an accumulator 84 connected to the assist cylinder 70 through an oil passage; a pump 82 connected to the assist cylinder through the oil passage, arranged at the side closer to an assist cylinder than to the accumulator; an electric power generator 86 for driving a pump; an electric storage device 92 for storing electric energy regenerated by the electric power generator; and a controller 54 for controlling the electric power generator. The controller switches the operation state of the electric power generator between a state of a regenerating operation and a state of powering operation corresponding to the position of the stroke of the working element.
