PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress occurrence of a high luminance part appearing in a captured image by reducing stray light.SOLUTION: A reader includes: a transparent original platen 4 on which an original 3 is placed; an illumination device 5 including a light source and light guide bodies 13a to 13d for guiding light which the light source emits to the original platen to illuminate a reading face 3a of the original placed on the original platen; an imaging apparatus 6 for imaging the reading face of the original illuminated by the illumination device; and a light shielding plate 32 for shielding light which is out of normal emission angle ranges R1 and R2 and is emitted from an emission face 16 of the light guide body. The reader also includes a mirror 7 which reflects light from the reading face of the original and guides it to the imaging apparatus. The illumination device is arranged obliquely upward to face the original platen. The light shielding plate is disposed on a side of the light guide body to shield light which is emitted from the light guide body and advances to the mirror.
