Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a metal oxide particle having a spherical shape, and a porous or non-porous outer shell with a cavity inside thereof, a method for producing a metal oxide particle provided that the pressure inside the outer shell is negative, the metal oxide particles, and a cosmetic, a resin composition and a heat insulating material comprising the same.SOLUTION: The method for producing the metal oxide particles having the cavity inside the outer shell comprises: a step (a) of preparing precursor particles of the metal oxide particles by spray-drying a hydrolyzed polycondensate dispersion of a particular hydrolyzable metal compound in a hot air flow, wherein the hydrolyzed polycondensate has a molecular weight within the range of 500-100,000 and a solid content within the range of 5-100 wt.%; and a step (b) of carrying out drying and a heat-treatment of the precursor particle of the metal oxide particle.
