PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an optical fiber preform with a dummy rod connected thereto not requiring a long time for processing for molding a connection end protrusively, not generating bubbles on a connection part, and not generating trouble on the connection part such as crazing or a crack starting from a bubble, and to provide a method for producing a dummy rod.SOLUTION: In this method for producing an optical fiber preform with a dummy rod connected thereto, a step of connecting the dummy rod 11 and the optical fiber preform 10 coaxially includes: a step of cutting either end so that an angle formed between a plane vertical to either center axis of the dummy rod 11 and the optical fiber preform 10 and a cross section of either end after cutting satisfies 0
