Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas purifying catalyst hardly causing HC poisoning of Pd and further improved in catalytic activity.SOLUTION: The exhaust gas purifying catalyst includes a base material 42, and a catalyst layer 43 formed on the base material. The catalyst layer 43 has at least a ceria-zirconia composite oxide as a carrier, and Pd is supported to the carrier. The catalyst layer 43 includes an upstream catalyst part 44 and a downstream catalyst part 45b. Ba is added to each of the upstream and downstream catalyst parts 44, 45b, and the Ba added amount of the upstream catalyst part 44 is an amount equivalent to 8-22 mass% to the total mass of the ceria-zirconia composite oxide contained in the upstream catalyst part 44, and the Ba added amount of the downstream catalyst part 45b is an amount equivalent to 3-7 mass% to the total mass of the ceria-zirconia composite oxide contained in the downstream catalyst part 45b.
