PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerator capable of maintaining food freshness while improving energy saving.SOLUTION: The refrigerator comprises a freezer, a refrigeration chamber, a compressor, a cooler for cooling the freezer and the refrigeration chamber, a fan in the refrigerator for circulating cold air cooled with the cooler in the freezer and the refrigeration chamber, an air blowing amount control means for independently controlling air blowing to the freezer and refrigeration chamber, and a defrosting heater installed downward of the cooler to melt frost grown in the cooler. In this refrigerator, a precooling operation for cooling the freezer before a defrosting operation begins at the timing when the freezer is cooled down to or below a center temperature between a set value for a freezer cooling start temperature and a set value for a freezer cooling end temperature during a cooling operation of the freezer.
