Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cause a reference mark on an intermediate transfer belt to stop at a position immediately before a detection position of a sensor.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus employing an indirect transfer system includes: an intermediate transfer belt 15; a reference mark 19 that may be any icon arranged on the intermediate transfer belt 15; a detection sensor 18 that reads the reference mark 19 before image formation onto the intermediate transfer belt 15; and transfer belt drive means 20 for rotating the intermediate transfer belt 15 after the image formation such that the reference mark 19 is located immediately before a detection position by the detection sensor 18.
