PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet feeding device which can reduce an impact noise emitted in feeding a sheet by a space-saving and with a simple configuration, and to provide an image forming apparatus.SOLUTION: An intermediate plate cam 61 turnably provided at an intermediate plate 64 is pressed by a sheet feeding cam 62 firmly fixed to a feeding shaft 63 of a feeding roller 34 to hold the intermediate plate 64 that is urged by an intermediate plate spring 67 in a standby position, till the start of feeding of a sheet P. In feeding a sheet, the intermediate plate 64 in the standby position is raised while the intermediate plate cam 61 is turned along an upper surface of the intermediate plate 64, and the sheet P is brought into pressure contact with the feeding roller 34.
