PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve fuel economy of an internal combustion engine by stably supplying ions in an amount appropriate to the combustion state of the internal combustion engine to the internal combustion engine.SOLUTION: A control device 10 of an engine 12 detects an engine state quantity responding to a combustion state of the engine 12 through each detection means and measures an ion amount in a combustion chamber 29 of the engine 12 by an ion amount measuring device 92. An ion generator 86 disposed in an intake device 14 generates ions in an amount required to the combustion in the engine 12 in response to the engine state quantity detected by each detection means, the ion amount measured by the ion amount measuring device 92, a distance between the ion generator 86 and the ion amount measuring device 92, and the temperature and/or humidity of intake air and refluxed exhaust gas.
