Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tool for friction stir welding which can provide stable welding strength and welding quality from the early stage of welding start, and which has excellent durability.SOLUTION: The tool 1 for friction stir welding includes a base material 2, and coating layers 3 deposited on a region on the base material, in contact with at least a material to be welded. At least one layer of the coating layers is deposited by the physical vapor deposition method. The coating layer at the region in contact with the material to be welded has a thickness of ≥3 μm and ≤50 μm, and a surface roughness Ra of ≥0.005 μm and ≤0.2 μm.
