Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly restart an engine by 1-compression starting at a maximally high frequency when restarting the compression self-ignition engine.SOLUTION: When a restarting condition is established (YES in Step S21), when a stopping position of a piston of a stopping time compression stroke cylinder existing in a compression stroke when stopping the engine falls within a reference stopping position range set near the bottom dead center (YES in Step S25) while imparting torque to the engine by using a starter motor, fuel injection is executed on the stopping time compression stroke cylinder, and the engine is restarted thereby by the 1-compression starting (Step S26). As a stopping time of the engine by automatic stopping control of the engine becomes short, the reference stopping position range is expanded to the top dead center side (Steps S22-S24).
