PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric vacuum cleaner exhibiting the appropriate dust removal performance regardless whether a rotary cleaning body is in an operated or stopped state, and suppressing the power consumption of the overall system including an electric fan.SOLUTION: The electric vacuum cleaner 1 includes: an electric fan 8 for generating suction negative pressure; a suction port body 26 traveling such that a bottom with a suction port 28 on which suction negative pressure acts by being fluidly connected to the electric fan 8 is made to face a surface to be cleaned; the rotary cleaning body 29 located in the suction port 28 and freely rotated; an electric motor 31 rotationally driving the rotary cleaning body 29; a brush switch 24c for instructing to operate or stop the electric motor 31; a cleaned surface detecting part 32 for detecting whether the suction port body 26 makes contact with the ground with the bottom facing the cleaned surface; and a body control part 9 configured to exert control such that the revolution speed of the electric fan 8 when a cleaned surface detecting part 32 detects that the electric motor 31 is running and that the suction port body 26 makes contact with the ground with its bottom facing the cleaned surface is lower than the revolution speed of the electric fan 8 when the electric motor 31 is stopped.
