Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a robot cleaner having a structure improved in order to efficiently perform a cleaning operation in accordance with a material or state of a floor surface of a cleaning area, and a method for controlling the robot cleaner.SOLUTION: A robot cleaner includes: a main body; a driving wheel for driving the main body; a driving wheel assembly having the driving wheel; and a control part. The control part senses a sensed body, detects displacement of the driving wheel with respect to a reference position, determines a material or state of a floor surface in accordance with the displacement of the driving wheel, and controls traveling of the robot cleaner depending on the determined material or state of the floor surface.
