Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating material composition and a method for forming a coating film that are applicable to various industrial products, in particular, an automobile exterior panel and can form a coating film having excellent weather resistance, having high lightness at a highlight (in the vicinity of specularly reflected light) and low lightness at a shade (in an oblique direction) and not appearing yellowish from the highlight to the shade.SOLUTION: The coating material composition includes a complex metal oxide pigment having a primary particle size of not less than 5 nm and not more than 100 nm and a flake-like aluminum pigment. The method for forming a coating film includes applying the coating material composition to a substrate and further applying a clear coating material thereto.
