PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an embroidery data generating apparatus capable of obtaining a variety of color scheme patterns with ease while adopting a color required by a user for an embroidery pattern.SOLUTION: A control device carries out allocation processing to randomly extract a color from a plurality of colors stored in a first storage means and to allocate the extracted color as a yarn color datum of a pattern-by-color part (step A3, A4). An embroidery pattern is displayed on a display screen with the colors each allocated to the pattern-by-color parts by the allocation processing (step A4). A color of yarn color data required by a user is designated from among pattern-by-color parts in the displayed embroidery pattern and stored in a second storage means (step A8-A11). The control device also carries out allocation processing to preferentially extract and allocate a color when the color is stored in the second storage means (step A3, A4).
