Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high capacity, long-distance optical communication system which transmits optical signals in a C-band over DSF.SOLUTION: The optical communication system comprises: an optical transmitter which supplies a plurality of optical signals; an optical combiner; a plurality of segments of dispersion compensation fiber (DCF); and an optical receiver. Each of the plurality of optical signals has a corresponding one of a plurality of wavelengths and is modulated in accordance with a phase modulation format. The optical combiner is configured to combine the plurality of optical signals and supply the plurality of optical signals as a wavelength division multiplexed signal to an optical communication path which includes a plurality of concatenated segments of the dispersion shifted fiber (DSF). Each of the plurality of segments of the dispersion compensation fiber (DCF) is configured to be coupled to the optical communication path, and the plurality of segments of the DCF are provided between adjacent segments of the plurality of concatenated segments of the DSF. The optical receiver has an input coupled to an end portion of the optical communication path. |
