PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a defect recognition method for prepreg material that can detect a defect region in prepreg material with higher accuracy than conventional methods.SOLUTION: A defect recognition method for a prepreg material 1 comprises the steps of: drawing first intersecting cross-lines 4b along starting boundaries 3b of defect regions 2 in the prepreg material 1; and drawing second intersecting cross-lines 4e along ending boundaries 3e of the defect regions 2 in a similar manner. Each of the intersecting cross-lines 4b and 4e forms the angle α with respect to a travel direction 5 of the prepreg material 1. The intersecting cross-lines 4b and 4e that partition off the starting boundaries 3b and the ending boundaries 3e of the defect regions 2 respectively have identification codes Band E.
