Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide B-type titanium oxide powder which has charge and discharge characteristics and rate characteristic of B-type titanium oxide (TiO(B)) powder improved by a simple treatment and can be suitably used as a negative electrode material of a lithium ion battery.SOLUTION: B-type titanium oxide powder is reacted at 0°C to 200°C for one minute to 10 days under fluorine-containing gas atmosphere to obtain B-type titanium oxide powder with the surface fluorinated. The fluorination treatment is preferably carried out at 0.01 atm to 2 atm. As the fluorine-containing gas, gas containing a fluorine compound selected from fluorine (F), nitrogen trifluoride (NF), methoxynitrogen trifluoride (N(CF)) and chlorine trifluoride (ClF) gases and the like is preferably used.
