PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an enclosing and sealing apparatus for nipping a pressed portion with appropriate nip pressure in accordance with the thickness of a sealed letter to be prepared.SOLUTION: An enclosing and sealing apparatus includes: a thickness information acquisition part 2 for obtaining information showing the thickness of a sealed letter to be prepared before sealing, as thickness information; a pressing control information acquisition part 5 which compares thickness information acquired by the thickness information acquisition part 2 with control information according to thickness which includes a table of the thickness of the sealed letter to be prepared before sealing and information on nip pressure control quantity suitable for the thickness of the sealed letter to be prepared before sealing, and acquiring pressing control information for controlling a flap nip roller pair 3A in accordance with the thickness information; and a control part 6 which variably controls the nip pressure of the flap nip roller pair 3A based on the pressing control information.
