PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide means for enabling more pleasant information exchange by reducing aridity in information exchange through a network.SOLUTION: Connecting an aroma giving-off adapter 13 to a terminal device 12 and loading an aroma cartridge 14 accommodating aroma liquid in the aroma giving-off adapter 13 enables each member using an instant messaging system 1 to log on a message server device 11. A name of a member capable of performing message exchange or telephone call among other members logging on at the present time is displayed on the terminal device 12 of the member having logged on. When incoming of message or telephone call from the other member occurs; the terminal device 12 gives the aroma giving-off adapter 13 an instruction to give off an aroma, and the aroma giving-off adapter 13 gives off the aroma by making the aroma cartridge 14 release the aroma liquid accommodated. Thereby, the message exchange or telephone call with the aroma is enabled.
