Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that rotation adjustment means tends to be complicated/increased in size because a holder section constituting the rotation adjustment means has a plurality of structures and a plurality of rotation adjustment means interfere with each other when the rotation adjustment means is complicated/increased in size.SOLUTION: The projection type display device comprises: a light source; an optical modulation section for modulating light emitted from the light source; a polarization element arranged between the light source and the optical modulation section; and a holder section for holding the polarization element. The holder section includes a passive section for receiving driving force from the outside of the projection type display device and the holder section is rotatable with an axis vertical to the polarization element as a center axis by the driving force together with the polarization element. The passive section is formed in a surface on the light source side or in a surface on the optical modulation section side of the holder section.
