PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording apparatus and a recording method that can improve the recording speed.SOLUTION: In the recording apparatus that performs recording to a recording medium that is conveyed by a conveyance means to the sub-scanning direction that intersects with the scanning direction of recording heads while performing the scanning of the plurality of recording heads, the plurality of recording heads are arranged by shifting the scanning start position in the scanning direction along the sub-scanning direction. The recording apparatus includes: a selection means to select the recording head of which scanning start position is the nearest to the conveyance path of the recording medium when the length of the recording area that performs recording in the sub-scanning direction is less than the length of a single recording head; a setting means that sets the conveyance amount of the recording medium by the conveying means according to the position in the sub-scanning direction of the selected recording head; and a recording control means that performs recording using the selected recording head and the set conveyance amount.
