Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas purifying catalyst exhibiting high purifying ability to THC and NOx contained in the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine feeding fuel and burning the same under periodic rich or lean condition from a low temperature range to a high temperature range; and to provide a carrier for the catalyst.SOLUTION: An apatite compound represented by general formula: A(PO)(OH)(wherein A represents at least one of Sr, Ba and Ca) is used as a carrier. This exhaust gas purifying catalyst is obtained by having the apatite compound carrier support a noble metal component.
