Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for engaging and disengaging a fixing nip for cut sheet heat-fixing processing.SOLUTION: A fixing device includes a first fixing member 110 and a second fixing member 120 that are movable to engage and disengage a fixing nip 130 defined by the first fixing member 110 and the second fixing member 120. The fixing nip 130 is disengaged to accommodate entry and exit of a cut sheet, and engaged to accommodate warm-pressure fixing of a marking material image 104 to the cut sheet.
