Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tool for friction stir welding which is capable of promoting the temperature rise of a material to be welded during the welding, performing the friction stir welding in a short time while a coating layer has excellent heat insulation, excellent oxidation resistance, and excellent wear resistance.SOLUTION: The tool for friction stir welding includes a base material and a coating layer formed on the base material. The coating layer consists of two or more layers, and the entire coating layer has the thermal permeability of ≤8,000 J/smK. At least one layer out of the coating layers contains the hexagonal crystal system and/or amorphous. At least one layer of the coating layers contains the cubic crystal system, and the coating layer has the compressive stress.
