Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a butt welding method of a steel member which can eliminate post weld heat treatment by making a welding part into a joint of excellent quality, even in a welded structure in which the post weld heat treatment is impossible due to product characteristics, or even when eliminating the post weld heat treatment for reducing a manufacturing period and cost.SOLUTION: A groove face of a base material such as a thick plate of carbon steel or low alloy steel is subjected to overlaying of stainless steel or nickel-based alloy, and a height of an overlaying part is higher than a prescribed height in which a hardening part is not formed in a heat-affected zone of the base material. Then, the overlaying part is subjected to an edge preparation, and afterwards, butt welding is performed with the stainless steel or the nickel-based alloy.
