IMAGE READER AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of reducing parts cost and manufacturing cost by efficiently suppressing the opening speed of a guide unit with a simple configuration and to provide an image forming apparatus.SOLUTION: The image reader includes an ADF separating and conveying the documents of a document bundle on a document tray one by one, an image reading part arranged below the ADF and reading the image of the conveyed document, the guide unit constituting a part of a conveyance path for the document and rotated downward around a rotation shaft 122 with respect to the ADF, to open the conveyance path to the outside, and a resistance application mechanism 150 applying resistance to the opening operation of the guide unit. The resistance application mechanism 150 includes a pin 151 provided in the ADF, so as to be projected in a direction parallel to the rotation shaft 122 and an elastic member 152 provided in the guide unit, coming into contact with the pin 151 and elastically deformed in conjunction with the opening operation of the guide unit.
