Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image sensor unit that illuminates a document so that an image can be read stably regardless of whether the document is glossy or not, and an image reader equipped with the same.SOLUTION: An image sensor unit 5 of close-contact type comprises: a light source 10; a light guide 11 configured such that light made incident on from the light source 10 is emitted from a light emission surface 11b; a polarization filter 12 configured to block the S wave of light emitted from the light emission surface 11b of the light guide 11 and pass its P wave through it, thereby illuminating a document; a rod lens array 13 configured to image light reflected from the document; and a photoelectric conversion element 14 configured such that reflected light imaged by the rod lens array 13 is converted into an electric signal. As a mirror reflection component, an S wave is dominant, and light that blocks the S wave and has a P wave as a main wave is emitted to the document. Accordingly, the mirror reflection component is reduced to eliminate failure such as imprinting a white streak on a read image, and an image can be read stably regardless of whether the document is glossy or not.
