PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adhesive applying device capable of stably applying an adhesive, and also provide a cartoning machine.SOLUTION: An adhesive applying device 80 includes an application roller 81 for applying an adhesive onto an inner surface of an outer flap Ccf of a carton C, a rotating shaft holder case 83 for holding a rotating shaft 82 for rotating the application roller 81, a guide 85 onfigured so that the outer flap Ccf is sandwiched between the guide and the application roller 81 in order to transfer the adhesive in filling holes 81h onto the outer flap Ccf, and a guide holder 84 for holding the guide 85. The guide 85 has such a bending rigidity that deformation caused by an external force acting in attaching or removing the guide is kept within a resilient deformation range. Insertion of a case fastening member 86 into case fastening member insertion holes 83j and 84j extended in a stacking direction Q causes the position of the rotating shaft holder case 83 to be fixed with respect to the guide holder 84. A cartoning machine includes a carton conveyor for conveying the carton C and an inserting device for inserting an object R to be contained into the carton C.
