Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric brake system having excellent operational responsiveness, and a method for controlling the same.SOLUTION: A brake actuator 6 converts the rotation of an electric motor 61 into the straight motion and transmits it to a piston, and generates the braking force in a wheel by pressing a brake pad against a disk rotor by the piston. When the brake operation is completed, a brake control device 2 rotates the electric motor 61 in the direction corresponding to the returning direction, and detects the rotational position of the electric motor 61 when the braking force is eliminated. The brake control device 2 further rotates the electric motor 61 in the returning direction, adjusts the rotational position of the electric motor 61 so that the difference between the rotational position when the braking force is eliminated and the present rotational position of the electric motor 61 is within the reference rotational range, and then, regulates the rotation of the electric motor 61 by a locking mechanism.
