Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative electrode active material, a method for manufacturing the same, and a lithium battery comprising the same.SOLUTION: A negative electrode active material comprises carbonaceous cores having a sulfur content of 10 to 900 ppm, and an amorphous carbon layer continuously formed on the surface of each carbonaceous core. The carbonaceous cores have a crystalline platy structure. The crystallite size obtained from the half width at the peak corresponding to the (002) face in the X-ray diffraction spectrum of the carbonaceous cores is in the range of 10 to 45 nm. A lithium battery comprises a negative electrode containing the negative electrode active material. Thus the capacity characteristics and the cycle life characteristics are improved.
