Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent degradation in image quality of a main image.SOLUTION: In an image forming apparatus, one nozzle row group is displaced toward one side in a medium transport direction with respect to another nozzle row group. The image forming apparatus includes: a first mode in which a main image that is formed using one of the one nozzle row group and the other nozzle row group and a background image that is formed using the other one of the one nozzle group and the other nozzle row group are formed on a medium in an overlapped manner; and a second mode in which the main image is formed on the medium without forming the background image using one of the one nozzle row group and the other nozzle row group.
