Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ball type universal joint capable of preventing a ball from being shot when the ball type universal joint is assembled to a vehicle and achieving lightweight.SOLUTION: In the ball type universal joint the outer ring 20 of which includes a first outer ring member 201 formed with a part of each outer ring ball groove 23 and a second outer ring member 202 formed with the rest of each outer ring ball groove 23, the outer ring ball groove 23a of the first outer ring member 201 includes the rolling range of the ball 40 when a joint angle is changed from 0° to a maximum operation angle θ, the outer ring ball groove 23b of the second outer ring member 202 is formed so that the ball 40 can be rolled when the joint angle is changed from an angle exceeding the maximum operation angle θto a maximum imposing angle θ, and the mass per unit volume of the second outer ring member 202 is smaller than the mass per unit volume of the first outer ring member 201.
