PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multilayer diffraction optical element that can maintain a state of high diffraction efficiency over the whole visible range without variation over time.SOLUTION: A multilayer diffraction optical element has, over a transparent substrate, a diffraction grating-shaped first layer made of resin formed by energy-hardening a resin composition containing particulates of transparent electroconductive substance and a monomer; and a second layer which can permeate oxygen and having a diffraction grating shape on at least one surface, wherein the first layer and the second layer are so stacked that the first layer and the diffraction grating shape of the second layer oppose each other, and a space for supplying oxygen is disposed over the second layer.
