SYSTEM OF AUTOMATICALLY MAKING GEAR SHIFT POSITION BE P (PARKING) WHEN DRIVER GETS OFF VEHICLE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system of preventing such an accident that a driver stops an automatic transmission vehicle on a slope and gets off from the vehicle while releasing a side brake and shifting the gear to a position other than P (Parking).SOLUTION: A method of detecting how the driver acts or whether she/he sits on a seat includes: a step 1 in which a door switch detects that a door has opened; and a step 2 in which a seat switch detects that the driver is not sitting on the seat. If both of the two facts happen, the shift lever is automatically set to the position P in this system. It is necessary for the system to avoid determining that the driver is sitting unless a person with a weight of 20-30 kg or more is sitting. This circuit need be durable enough to withstand 100,000 times of opening/closing. In addition, when the system works at speed of 10 km/h for example, the brake activates to slow down to safe speed for shifting the gear to the position P even if shifting to the position P. Parking lamps (hazard lamps) should be turned ON as soon as the gear is shifted to the position P.
