PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To pulverize raw materials of any type effectively and to elongate the life of a mill roller in a vertical roller mill.SOLUTION: In the vertical roller mill including a rotary table 20 rotating in a circumferential direction in combination with a plurality of vertical crushing rollers 10A located at regular intervals in a rotating direction on the rotary table, the crushing surface 11A of the roller is divided into a main crushing surface 11A' and a secondary crushing surface 11A", a crushing surface other than the main crushing surface. Of the crushing surface 21A of the rotary table facing the outer periphery surface of the crushing roller 10A, the main crushing surface 21A' on the rotary table side facing the main crushing surface 11A' of the crushing roller 10A is made a flat, and, in the secondary crushing surface 21A", the crushing surface of the rotary table other than the main crushing surface, a slit groove 22A inclined at a right angle or over 45° in a rotating direction of the table, or a screw groove inclined at 5 to 45° in a rotating direction of the table is formed.
