Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a foreign material detecting device or the like more accurately detecting an elongated foreign material.SOLUTION: The foreign material detecting device 18 includes a first detector 31, a plurality of second detectors 32, a plurality of actuating members 33, a circuit unit 34, and an electric conduction detection unit 35. The first detector 31 is disposed on one side with a surface along which doors for closing/opening a doorway of an elevator car are mutually closed up sandwiched. The plurality of second detectors 32 are disposed on the other side with the surface along which the doors are mutually closed up sandwiched, facing the first detector 31, and are arrayed along the first detector 31. The plurality of actuating members 33 respectively actuate the plurality of second detectors 32 toward the first detector 31 side. The circuit unit 34 is made electrically conductive by bringing all the second detectors 32 into face-to-face contact with the first detector 31 when door closing. The electric conduction detection unit 35 detects whether the circuit unit 34 is in an electrically conductive state or not when door closing.
