PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an easy-to-see image by combining reduction of a burden on the eyes and prevention of breakage of an image.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus is provided with: a region specification part which specifies a character region including achromatic characters and an achromatic background in an image to be outputted: an inversion processing part which subjects only the specified character region to inversion of brightness of achromatic color; and an output part which outputs an image including the character region in which the brightness of the achromatic color is inverted. The inversion processing part changes a half-tone achromatic color constituting the characters in the character region to a color brighter than a brightness obtained by inverting the brightness of the half-tone achromatic color.
