PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for identifying a travelling direction of a train in a station platform, which achieves a reduction in cost, and to provide a method for identifying a travelling direction of a train in a station platform.SOLUTION: The system for identifying a travelling direction of a train in a station platform, includes: a track circuit group 20T for determining the existence of a train 10 on a track in a station platform SH; a ranging device for measuring a temporal change in train distance D10 between a single fixed-point P1 disposed along the track circuit group 20T and the train 10; and a travelling direction determining device for determining a travelling direction of the train 10 relative to the station platform SH based on a temporal increase or decrease of the train distance D10 for the train 10 starting from the station platform SH.
