FIXING DEVICE AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent even an extremely thin recording medium from winding around and not separating from a member forming a fixing nip.SOLUTION: A fixing device includes a fixing member heated by heating means and a pressure member coming into pressure contact with the fixing member and clampingly conveys a sheet-like recording medium to the fixing nip between the fixing member and the pressure member. The fixing device is disposed with a separation member for separating the recording medium from the fixing member or the pressure member, at a recording medium conveying-direction downstream side of the fixing nip. The fixing device is further disposed with a thin-piece or small-diameter peeling member between a tip of the separation member in the recording medium conveying-direction upstream side and the fixing nip, and the disposition position is so set that a total of the thickness of the peeling member, and a gap between the peeling member and the fixing member or the pressure member that is a separation object member is smaller than a minimal-thickness recording medium that is scheduled to be clamped and conveyed.
