PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display element and a display device, in which directivity of light extracted from a light guide body is improved.SOLUTION: A display element of an embodiment of the present invention, comprises: a light guide body having optical transparency, which extends in one direction; and a light extraction section that includes a displacement layer for performing a displacement operation by an electric signal, a reflective layer provided on the displacement layer, and a light extraction layer provided on the reflective layer, which faces the light guide body. On one principal surface of the light extraction layer, which faces the reflective layer, there are formed a plurality of prisms consisting of ridge lines and two inclined surfaces across the ridge line, and trough lines between the adjoining ridge lines. At least, in two prisms adjacent to each other, either each of the corresponding inclined surfaces has a different angle formed with the other principal surface of the light extraction layer facing the light guide body, or the ridge lines of the prisms are non-parallel to the trough lines formed between the ridge lines.
