Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a debris exclusion and retention device for a fuel assembly, which does not adversely affect operation of a nuclear reactor and has a low manufacturing cost.SOLUTION: A debris exclusion and retention device 63 traps and retains foreign material within a lower tie plate 58 of a fuel assembly by utilizing existing flow paths within the lower tie plate 58 and without redirecting coolant flow. The retention device traps and retains debris in these low flow zones without impacting existing flow patterns in the lower tie plate 58. Thus, the retention device 63 has minimal or no impact on pressure drop of the lower tie plate 58.
