PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video terminal device capable of balancing communication and privacy protection more in detail.SOLUTION: The video terminal device includes an image generation part 11 which generates a photographic image; a distance measurement part 13 which measures the distance to a user; a generation mode selection part 14 which selects one of generation modes of transmission information including a first generation mode for generating an image of the user excluding the background and a second generation mode for generating a shadow image of the user excluding the background based upon the measured distance; a background removed image generation part 16 which generates an image of the user excluding the background when the first generation mode is selected; a shadow image generation part 15 which generates a shadow image of the user excluding the background when the second generation mode is selected; an image transmission part 19 which transmits the image of the user excluding the background to an opposite-side video terminal device; and a shadow image transmission part 18 which transmits the shadow image of the user excluding the background to the opposite-side video terminal device.
