FLAME RETARDANT AND FLAME RETARDANT THERMOPLASTIC RESIN COMPOSITION CONTAINING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flame retardant having high flame retardancy imparting effect and preventing bleeding out, and giving a thermoplastic resin composition exhibiting excellent moldability, and a molded article having excellent wet heat resistance.SOLUTION: The flame retardant for a thermoplastic resin is made of a specific nitrogen-containing compound and a specific reaction product of a phosphorus-containing compound, wherein the content of phosphorus atoms of the flame retardant is 9-10.7 wt.%. In a gel permeation chromatography chart of the flame retardant for a thermoplastic resin, in terms of polystyrene molecular weight, the flame retardant has one or more peaks at a peak top molecular weight of less than 1,200 and at 1,200 or more, respectively and has a peak area of 95-35% below a peak top molecular weight of less than 1,200 and 5-65% at a peak top molecular weight of 1,200 or more.
