PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader and image reading system for efficiently reading an image.SOLUTION: A multi function peripheral (MFP) 100 reads a manuscript being a reading object (S102). When the manuscript is partially abnormal (e.g. in one page of a spread manuscript), reading is performed again concerning the partial area (a first area) (S123). When there is no abnormality in the read image data, the image data is defined as the image data (the first image data) of a first area. Then, the first image data is stored in one file together with the image data (the second image data) of an area other than the first area (the second area) (S107).
