Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water volume recognizing apparatus that enables a person illuminating the dark inside of a water reservoir or the like with an electric lamp and looking in from above to easily recognize the current water volume therein without incurring a high cost or a long construction period.SOLUTION: A water volume recognizing apparatus 120 typically comprises a float unit 122 that can intrinsically float on water, a step-fitted unit 126 to be fitted to a step 110a of a lifting ladder 110 disposed on a water brink, and a graduation unit 128 having an indication of a water volume corresponding to the step 110a that is linked to the float unit 122 and to which the step-fitted unit 126 is fitted, wherein the step 110a and the step-fitted unit 126 or the step-fitted unit 126 and the float unit 122 are configured to be rotatable and turned upward when the float unit 122 receives buoyancy from water, and the indication on the graduation unit 128 is arranged in a position observable from above when the float unit 122 is turned upward.
