Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a polybasic acid vinyl monomer copolymer safely at low cost.SOLUTION: A copolymer of a styrene unit derived from a styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer and a polybasic acid unit is precipitated by: dissolving the styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer in water or an alkali aqueous solution; and then making the resultant aqueous solution acidic. Thus the polybasic acid vinyl monomer copolymer can be obtained which includes the copolymer thus precipitated.
