Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a cellulose ether and a hydroxyalkylated cellulose ether, which can efficiently produce the cellulose ether and the hydroxyalkylated cellulose ether with high productivity, both of which are less likely to be lowered in their molecular weights and have high water solubility.SOLUTION: The method of producing the cellulose ether includes a step of pulverizing a cellulose and then reacting the cellulose with an etherifying agent that has an epoxy group (except for a 2-4C alkylene oxide) serving as a site to be reacted with the cellulose, under the coexistence of the etherifying agent and a base compound.
