Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic carrier for an electrophotographic developer and a production method of the magnetic carrier which can appropriately maintain an electric resistance value during development, has durability, gives reproducibility of a uniform solid part with high density, maintains a high-quality image with excellent gradation and the like, has superior durability of a coating resin of the carrier against peeling or wear, has stability against mechanical stress on the carrier, induces no toner spent and can maintain the above characteristics for a long period of time, and to provide a two-component developer comprising a toner and the above magnetic carrier for an electrophotographic developer.SOLUTION: A magnetic carrier for an electrophotographic developer comprises spherical magnetic composite particles comprising ferromagnetic iron oxide particles dispersed in a phenolic resin and having minute recesses and projections on the carrier particle surfaces, which are coated with a coating layer comprising a melamine resin. The surface of the spherical magnetic composite particle shows a ten-point average roughness Rz of 0.3 μm to 2.0 μm.
