Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a laser welding method and a laser welding apparatus, wherein butt welding of a plate material can be performed in a short welding time at low cost without the need for a cutting device and a cutting process.SOLUTION: The laser welding method includes: a first irradiation step of irradiating at least one portions to be welded of a pair of opposing plate materials 6 with a laser 12 a plurality of times while changing the irradiation positions of laser 12 from an end surface of the plate material 6, to temporarily melting the portions; a gap-adjusting step of adjusting an interval between the portions of the pair of plate materials 6 so that the interval falls within an allowable gap; and a second irradiation step of irradiating the portions with the laser 12 to weld the plate materials 6.
